EVENT: RED BULL X-FIGHTERS WORLD SERIES GRAND FINALE

Client: Red Bull Australia
Campaign: Red Bull X-Fighters World Series
Role: Event Management and execution

The Brief: Cockatoo Island on Sydney Harbour was host to the 2011 finale of the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour. It’s taken 11 long years but finally, on 17 September 2011, the world’s undisputed number one freestyle motocross (FMX) competition converged on Australian turf and air space for the climax of the World Tour.

It was the sixth and final stop for the series that saw globe-trotting Aussies Robbie Maddison and Josh Sheehan come home to contest the coveted event on Cockatoo Island in Sydney Harbour.

But the Aussies weren’t short of competition. The planet’s top freestyle motocross riders, including world champion Nate Adams, made the journey Down Under to battle for the Red Bull X-Fighters crown.

For one day only, Cockatoo Island’s gritty industrial space was taken over by the gravity-defying dirt bike devils, scaling heights of 15-metres in search of glory, with Sydney Harbour as the backdrop.

Behind the scenes though this one day event was months in planning and around 5 weeks to transport and build this unique show on an island in the middle of Sydney's famous Harbour.

Sydney will go down in the 11-year-history of the Red Bull X-Fighters as the most spectacular event ever. The winner Josh Sheehan as well as his compatriot Cameron Sinclair aced a total of three double backflips on ordinary motocross bikes, 11,000 people were ferried to and from the island to enjoy the event, and millions in some 69 countries around the world watched the competition live.

What's in store next year?
